Scott Peters - Council Bluffs, IA

Scott Peters, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, came to Miller Orthopaedic as a result of progressive pain in his right hip.   Mr. Peters is a very physically active man playing squash and tennis regularly, as well as training dressage horses and running marathons.  He was experiencing pain in his right hip after participating in these activities but the pain hadn’t kept him from continuing to do them.  Scott had known about Miller Orthopaedic and the cutting edge procedures Dr. C. Kent Boese had been performing including hip resurfacing.

Hip resurfacing is a procedure which keeps more of the original bone, allows higher activity after surgery than a total hip replacement and has been proven to successfully treat hip arthritis in younger, more active patients.  Scott knew  of the procedure because his youngest brother had the procedure 3 years ago at UCLA. He also knew that Dr. Boese was one of the few doctors in the Midwest doing hip resurfacing.

Scott  met with Dr. Boese, in January 2007.  Dr. Boese ordered x-rays and performed a physical exam on Scott and he was found to have early osteoarthritis of the right hip.

Dr. Boese discussed with Scott the options available to relieve the pain.  Pros and cons of total hip arthroplasty versus hip resurfacing provided for a lengthy discussion.  Scott was leaning toward the hip resurfacing so he could return to his very active lifestyle.  However, Dr. Boese felt that the degeneration shown by the x-rays was not that serious, and that they should wait. Over the next year, Scott’s pain continued to increase and became more unbearable.  Approximately one year later, he returned to Miller Orthopaedic as recommended by Dr. Boese to discover his osteoarthritis of the hip had become more pronounced.  In February 2008 Scott underwent resurfacing of the right hip.

Several months after joint replacement, Scott has been very pleased with the results.  He would recommend Miller Orthopaedic to others because they “got me in on time, returned my calls, and I had great results.”  He felt that “everyone was polite and helpful and didn’t waste my time.”  His impression of the clinic and the doctor was always good and he felt his needs were met “perfectly”.

If you are experiencing pain in your hips, give us a call at 712-388-0147 to see if you might be a candidate for hip resurfacing.
