 Dr. Roy Abraham

In 1988 Miller Orthopaedic Sports Medicine began offering services to injured athletes in the Council Bluffs/Omaha metro and Southwest Iowa. The team has grown to three orthopaedic surgeons with fellowship training in sports medicine. Doctors Daniel J. Larose, Thomas M. Atteberry and Roy Abraham make up the sports medicine team at Miller Orthopaedic.

Dr. Daniel J. Larose

led the way starting the Saturday Sports Injury Clinic for athletes in 1988.  Eventually the Sports Injury Clinic expanded to include a FREE* daily walk-in clinic from 9-10 a.m. Athletes of all ages who have a sports injury may walk into the Council Bluffs clinic during these hours and be seen by a licensed orthopaedic sports medicine physician. The initial consultation is FREE. Additional charges may apply for additional supplies, x-rays or follow-up visits. Our goal is to get athletes back to their sport as quickly and safely as possible.

Sports medicine continues to be an ever growing need in the community with the expansion of school, organized and specialty team sports. Dr. Larose and the Miller Orthopaedic Sports Medicine team serve as the team physician for the Reivers at Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He provides his expertise at quarterly coach training at IWCC. He, his partners, Flex Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers provide sideline coverage during football season for area schools and IWCC.

His personal connection with area athletes has gained him an outstanding reputation as one of the leading sports medicine orthopaedic physicians in the area. Even after many of his patients graduate from high school and college, they return to him for their orthopaedic needs as a skilled and trusted provider. Dr. Larose is fluent in both English and French.

Dr. Thomas M. Atteberry

is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and fellowship trained in sports medicine. As one of the three sports medicine specialists at Miller Orthopaedic, he treats many of the athletes that come in for the sports injury clinic.

As a native of Treynor, Iowa, he returned to the Council Bluffs area to practice his orthopaedic specialty. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Iowa followed by four years of Medical School at the U of I College of Medicine. He completed his residence at the University of Kansas Medical Center Orthopaedic Surgery in Kansas City, KS. Dr. Atteberry completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Foundation for Orthopaedic, Athletic & Reconstruction Research in Houston, Texas. He practiced at Stillwater Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Associates before joining Miller Orthopaedic Affiliates.

He enjoys taking care of his patients in Council Bluffs and many of the SW Iowa communities where he holds outpatient clinic. Being from the area helps him easily relate to his patients and serve their orthopaedic needs.

In addition to his sports medicine specialties, he performs knee arthroscopy, total knee replacement, shoulder arthroscopy and rotator cuff repair. Dr. Atteberry focuses on returning the player to their chosen sport or an individual to their active lifestyle.

Dr. Roy Abraham

is a general orthopaedic surgeon with dual fellowships in both Adult Reconstruction and Sports Medicine. In 2007 he joined the Miller Orthopaedic team. He completed his Adult Reconstruction fellowship at Louisville University Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky and his Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Since 1994, Dr. Abraham has been doing trauma surgery. His experience spans the globe from India to Britain to the United States.

As part of the Sports Medicine team he sees patients throughout the week at the Sports Injury Clinic.  He also holds outpatient clinic in locations throughout Southwest Iowa with emphasis on sports medicine and total joint reconstruction. As a former body builder, he has a unique interest in sports medicine. His trauma experience is invaluable with fracture patients.
